Join us this Saturday at the 7th Annual Nordeast Brig River Brew Fest.
We will be serving a bunch of fun and unique beers made by many members of our club as well some barrel aged beer from our barrel projects.
It’s nearly here and we are very excited for Homebrew Con to return to the Twin Cities.
Come on down and celebrate with NBA members, Northgate, Married To My Beer, Natedogs, Rahr/BSG and Northern Brewer at the area’s premier pub! There will be some pro-am collaboration beers on tap as well as NorthGate’s fantastic libations! $2 from each sale of collaboration beer goes to benefit Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy research and treatment. We will also be raffling off homebrew items donated by Northern Brewer.
The event is free and open to all. Beer and food are pay-as-you-go.
Chop & Brew and Brülosophy are teaming up to host the Chop & Brü Prefunk Party at Insight Brewing in Northeast Minneapolis the night before the conference begins.
A contingent of NBA members will be in attendance.
Thursday is the first true day of the conference with check in, seminars, the keynote and kick-off party.
The NBA will be serving beer two ways on Thursday. First at the Yakima Valley Hops expo booth, we will be server six different beers made with YVH hops all through the conference. Then from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm we will will be pour a selection of beers at the social club. Stop by for a preview of the barrel beers we will have at Club Night.
The homebrew expo, social club and education sessions presentations will be jamming. Then the main event, club night. We have built a great booth and will have 12 different beers on tap to share. We will also be serving Chop and Brew beers at our booth, it should be a blast!
The beat goes, check out NBA member Sachin “Chino” Darji’s session “Brewing When You Have No Time”. The evening finishes up with the National Homebrew Competition: Award Ceremony and then the newly created Knockout Party.
Check out the Homebrew Con website for more info.
This month we will be meeting at our primary location, the main room at the East Side Neighborhood Services building, 7pm Thursday the 18th. Bring a tasting glass and some homebrew to share, if you don’t have any homebrew ready, don’t sweat it, just bring a glass. If you feel compelled to bring beer grab something new or interesting from the commercially available options at your local purveyor.
We will be recapping what we have done in the last month and what we have coming up for next month, Homebrew Con!
We started the month as we do with a Taproom Takeover at Urban Growler. Turn out was low but its still good to have people come out to support our local businesses.
Rahr and BSG invited us out to Rahr Malting facilities for a tour. We had a few beers at the Stube and then toured the campus. It was amazing to see acres of barley going through the malting processes.
2017 promises to be a banner year for homebrew in Minnesota. With HomeBrewCon 2017 in Minneapolis and the events that surround it, we are sure to make our impact on the community at large, and the NBA looks to make an impact on the community locally.
In the past we have engaged the local community in the from of beer education, beer events and a general involvement perspective. In the past we have setup brewing demonstrations at farmers markets, education sessions, and provided samples at other events to help raise money for local organizations. We loved doing these event and are grateful to the organizations for the opportunity to partner with them.
Going forward we will be focusing on homebrewing events and organizations. We will still be involved in certain events in Nordeast, like the Big River Brewfest and partnering with breweries in the area. These events connect us directly with beer people and brewers. Ongoing, we will be increasing our involvement with our local homebrew stores this year. We will have a presence at one of the local stores at least once a month to reach out to homebrewers specifically. We will be doing brew days, education sessions and general QandA for homebrewers, our people. For our membership we are will continue to put a focus on education and experiments. Along with club experiments, watch the google group for announcements on extended tests, collaborations, projects, and profiles.
Lets Party, and Drink Beer!
We kick off 2017 with our Winter Party (January 21st – Noon to 4pm – Northern Brewer Roseville) Check the google group for details. At the party we are holding our High Gravity Beer Competition, Sign up link in the google group. We hope to see you there!
As a result of the party there is no regular monthly meeting in January.
First off, a massive thanks to all of our volunteers, the companies that donated and of course the participants that entered beer!
We had a great two days of judging with some top quality beers. We combined the 152 entries into 16 judging tables. That produced 16 category winners, 1 best of show winner and 1 Pro-Am winner selected by NorthGate Brewing.
Congratulations to David Wells and Co-Brewers John Musser and Preston Leffler for having their Revolutionary double IPA select at the Pro-Am winner!

The Nordeast Brewers Alliance, in coordination with East Side Neighborhood Services and the Big River Brewfest, are proud to put on the 5th annual Nordeast Big River Homebrew Competition.
Our AHA/BJCP sanctioned homebrew competition is in its 5th year. We will have some of the best local and nationally recognized BJCP judges and a great judging location provided by ESNS. If you would like to help us out please register to be a judge or a steward, no experience is required.
Check out the competition website for more information and get those beers brewed and packaged for Northeast Minneapolis’ premier homebrew competition.
Welcome to Summer! BBQs, session beers, and hopefully some days on the water.
The NBA kicked off June with a Taproom Takeover at Fulton on the 2nd. A Twins game was happening the same night, in the future we will move Fulton to a month not during the baseball season…
On the 16th we met at ESNS for our monthly meeting:
The education topic this month will be “Explore a Style – American Amber Ale”. We will have at least 5 commercial examples and at least 1 homebrewed example to taste and dissect.
We hope to see you there!
