April was a fun month at the NBA. Here is a run down of things that we did.

Social Science – Fermentation Informational Beer Fest @ Science Museum of Minnesota

A handful of members came out to represent the NBA at the Science Museum of Minnesota’s annual Social Science – Fermentation Informational. We hosted a booth on the science of Malt. We had an information poster and supplied malt and a mill to explain what malt is in the process of brewing, what it tastes like if one was incline to try it, and a mill to crush malt, because that is what brewers do!

April Monthly Meeting Thursday the 21th, 7 PM @ EastSide Neighborhood Services

P1010491Come out to EastSide Neighborhood Services at 7pm to participate in the monthly club meeting. We will recap recent events, talk about upcoming events and introduce new business.

The education topic this month will be “Explore a Style – American Amber Ale”. We will have at least 5 commercial examples and at least 1 homebrewed example to taste and dissect.

Spring is here! Which means brewing season is upon us, especially for those of us who brew outside! To get everyone fired up, here is what it coming up, and what we did in March.

Nordeast Brewers Alliance Big Brew Day at Northern Brewer Mpls

Join the club and Northern Brewer for Big Brew Day to celebrate National Homebrew Day!

Bring your mobile brew system for an on-premise brew day. Bring a chair, a glass, and a cooler of homebrew to share. Events like these are a blast, brewing with friends is fun and educational. Show off your newest DIY or get inspirations from somebody else for your next build. The club will have beer on tap and the club brew system fired up. We hope to see you all there!

February 2016 Re-cap

First and foremost, a huge thank you and shout-out to Northern Brewer Minneapolis! They hosted us for our February meeting and did a fantastic education discussion on packaging beer. It was awesome to get tips on kegging, bottle/keg carbonating and conditioning, and bottle filling to touch on a few.

2016 – Year of the Experiments. The Executive committee met to discuss the year, and we are moving forward in doing member driven, documented experiments. If you have an experiment that you would like to do, please reach out to the community for any support or brewing you might need. You can find the latest information on the 2016 Experiments page.

As well, in 2016 we are bringing the Taproom Take Over back! Every first Thursday of the month, we encourage all members to show up at a taproom to socialize and proudly display our NBA apparel. All events are going to be posted on the Club Calendar.

February Monthly Meeting Thursday the 18th, 7 PM @ Northern Brewer Mpls

Wpaddleshirte resume our regular meeting schedule in 2016 with a meeting at Northern Brewer Minneapolis this Thursday the 18th at 7pm. Be sure to show up on time as the doors will be closed and locked shortly after 7pm. We will recap recent events, talk about upcoming events, learn about packaging from Northern Brewer and of course drink some beer.

This will be a great time to renew your membership if you were not able to attend the winter party as well as pick up some brewing supplies with a rare 15% off eligible items in the store.

NBA Winter Party/High Gravity Comp/Officer Election

Thanks to everyone that came out to the Winter Party this last weekend, it was a great time.

We had three beers on tap, a Mild, Flanders Red from our barrel project, and an IPA made on our club system. The food members brought was plentiful and excellent, we showed again that great brewers can also make great food.

Nathan G. brought a bunch of specialty grain he picked up from Bauhaus that members were free to take. There was Light Crystal,  Dark Crystal, Pale Rye, Chocolate Rye and Pale Chocolate.  Most of it went home with members, which was awesome. Included in the grain from Bauhaus was a large amount of base grain, which we will use to make beer on the club system!

Congratulations to Carl Allen for winning the High Gravity Competition with an 11% Stout.

Congratulations Tyler Bye for winning the election to the Director of Finance position.  Tyler has been a member since 2011 and previously held the Director of Ops position. Its great to have his knowledge, experience and dedication back in a leadership role in the club.

The NBA 2016 winter party is nigh

Each year in January we host a party where members bring food and beer, we hang out, have a high gravity club competition and vote on officers.

Active 2015 club members are invited. This is your best chance to renew your membership to maintain your homebrew store and beer store discounts. Check your email inbox for more info. The NBA leadership looks forward to partying with you all!

FYI, this is in place of the Janurary meeting, so no Thursday night meeting this month.
