Big group for the May meeting at East Side Neighborhood Services last week! Check out the notes from our meeting below.

  • Monthly recap
    • Midwest “learn to homebrew” day
    • Northgate big brew day – roughly 30 people showed up, 16 burners / batches
  • Yeast bank vote
    • Grant to link Google doc on site listing all the strains available from Chris Greenwald
    • Start-up costs ($76 in wish list cart, $40 invested + $15 in DME) voting on within $100 – PASSED
    • Subscribers in the future? Necessary to allocate additional funds or to guarantee people would
    • Will Chris take donations?
      • To deposit, take a portion of your starter, not from the actual fermenter
  • SHE update
    • Brewing Sunday, be there at 12 noon to pick up wort
    • $8-$10 per 5 gal.
    • Pitch one 11 gram pack of US-05
    • Hop schedule
      • 1 oz. dry
      • 2 oz. at 5
      • 1 oz. at 15
      • The rest to get up to 60 IBUs (tinseth)
      • Target starting gravity of 1.065
    • Tasting will be 3rd and 4th weekend in July
      • Location is TBD
      • Will replace July meeting
    • Selling tickets to non-members
      • Andrew N. looking into insurance
      • Brendan will look into legal
  • Yeast experiment update
    • At Northgate, entire batch of beer will be brewed there (5 bbls)
    • Northgate will PAY FOR INGREDIENTS as long as we do Walls End
    • End of June (last Sunday)
  • Barrel updates (1 and 2)
    • 1.0 – 13 months going
    • 1.1 – have 13 participants –
    • Funky HOBO signup
    • 2.0 – not messing with them, stopped off-gassing except for Flanders
  • NE Farmers Market signup
    • We can sell soda, will shoot for $1 a cup to make back our fee for getting to be at the farmers market
      • Nate O’brien would like to donate soda
    • Scheduled to be there every Saturday in June
    • Please SIGN UP to help out
      • Can accommodate two brew setups
      • Club not covering ingredients
    • 8am to 1pm, need to hit strike water temp by 9am
    • We’re there to show everyone what’s going on with the NBA
  • June BBQ meeting + low grav comp.
    • Will replace June meeting
    • Will be Saturday 6/22
    • 12 noon
    • Grant to put on Google calendar and will handle signup for competition and food signup
    • Low Grav. beer competition, <6% brewed in 2013
    • Family is ok to bring but do not bring dogs
    • Club will provide meat, bring side dishes to share
