Barrel project 2.0 fill day

“We’ve got four barrels full… four barrels of fun!” – Chip Walton

Ok so maybe that wasn’t an exact quote. We did however have Chip Walton of Chop & Brew and Summit Brewing Co. fame (formerly of BrewingTV and Northern Brewer) join us to video archive the day as members of the NBA filled barrels from Barrel Project 2.0. Chip’s will be using this footage for an upcoming webisode of Chop & Brew! Chip does great work so we’re very excited to see what he puts together.

Barrel project participation is open to NBA members only. JOIN OUR HOMEBREW CLUB HERE to participate in future fill days!

Here’s how the transfer schedule panned out: Continue reading Barrel project 2.0 fill day

BAMF Meeting Notes 10 Feb 2013

Attendance: Matt, Nick, Nate, Tyler

Yesterday four brave BAMFers braved the weather to unite at Pracna to discuss club details.  Read the notes below to see updates on the February meeting/barrel fill, as well as some of the upcoming club opportunities and plans.

Taproom takeover at Dangerous Man in Northeast! Just a fraction of our crew that showed up.

  •  Taproom Takeover – Dangerous Man
    • Friday February 8th marked the NBA’s first Taproom Takeover.  About 20 club members descended on Dangerous Man to imbibe and enjoy the destination taproom.  W e even had a raffle for an amazing prize.  Thanks to Dangerous Man for hosting us, and giving us a shoutout during the night.  We’ll be back soon!
    • Future Taproom Takeovers will include Indeed, Summit, 612Brew and a slew of other places.  Expect a “firm” schedule of all of them to be presented at the February meeting.  We plan on doing more raffles, maybe charging for tickets so we can afford to give away something cool. 2012 celebration party recap and high gravity beer competition

Passing of the torch… er… “gavel.”

Members of the Nordeast Brewers Alliance came together at North Loop Wine & Spirits last weekend to celebrate 2012, a year of exponential growth and great accomplishment for our Minneapolis brew club. 2012 President Andrew recapped his annual review, covering all the initiatives and activities the club pursued and facilitated last year. We then voted-in the 2013 Executive Committee (ExComm): Continue reading 2012 celebration party recap and high gravity beer competition

Nordeast Brewers Alliance 2012 annual review

Hello Brewers,
As the new year begins, lets take a look back to see what made last year awesome and look ahead at what 2013 will look like.

2012 wrap-up – the Mayans were dead wrong! | We started 2012 with 18 BAMF members, 6 (33%) were officers in the club. We collected everyone’s money and set up some by-laws to guess at how we would use it. In May, we determined that the club would focus on four things in 2012. We wanted to keep our trajectory narrow enough to achieve and broad enough to attract a wide range of members.

Experiments and education | We did an awesome job with the Single Hop Experiment. There were 16 different beers brewed using the same base beer and only changing the hops. This event brought us a lot of new members when we promoted it at the farmer’s market. There were many education series. We did our best to give you all something to learn each month related to your brewing. We talked about high gravity beers, decoction mashing, electric brewing, upside down fermentation and an in-depth presentation on water chemistry. Check the blog to see it all. We also got the chance to see the setups of our club members and trade ideas for getting things done more efficiently. A group of us also embarked on barrel aging. This project – for club members only – went into phase two in a BIG way at the end of the year. We’ll have five barrels full of beer by the end of March.
