Our monthly meeting was held October 17th 2013. Here’s what went down, along with some updates since the meeting.
- Nordeast Big River Brew Fest
- We poured some Citrocity as well as Root Beer at the 3rd annual brew fest. The Root Beer was also used for floats! The fest sold out this year, and we can’t wait for next year!
- NE Big River Homebrew Competition – semi-recap
- 190 Entries total. Winners were announced at the Brew Fest on Saturday. Score sheets will be mailed out week of Oct 21.
- End of Year Party and “Big” Beer Competition reminder – January
- In January we will hold our Year End party at North Loop. 2013 Members as well as those joining in January for the 2014 year are welcome.
- Food will be potluck Style
- Big Beer Competition: Any beer >7% brewed in 2013 can be submitted. 1 beer/person. Popular vote will decide the winner.
- A sign up form will be sent out closer to the event.
- Barrel 2.0 and 1.1 updates
- 2.0: The RIS will be pulled out the third weekend of November (16th or 17th) and replaced with a Barleywine.
- Fill out this survey so we can gauge interest, and determine the next barrel beer styles.
- 1.1 – It’s going to be a while till we have any action.
- Yeast Experiment status
- UPDATE: We will be brewing on Northgate’s system to remove variables.

- NHC 2014: The NBA is planning to go to the National Homebrewing convention in Grand Rapids, MI, June 12-14. Our goal is to pour our beer at a hospitality booth for several hours.
- We have a truck planning on driving out to get our beers there. We need at least 6 kegs of high quality brew.
- Perrin is taking the lead on this operation. He will have monthly updates, and probably send some emails out on this.
- Education: Yeast, Bacteria and Mixed Fermentation (Nick P)
- Nick schooled us on the differences between Sacchormyces, Brettanomyces, Pedio, Lacto and how to use them.
